Aleks & Jamie
A summer register office wedding in my home city, followed by an afternoon wandering Lichfield together: the cathedral, Minster Pool and the old streets in between.

A Lichfield wedding, right in the heart of the city
Lichfield is my home city, so register office weddings here are some of my favourites to photograph. The Register Office is in the Old Library building on Bird Street, and within a few minutes’ walk you have the Museum Gardens, Minster Pool, the Cathedral Close and the three spires of Lichfield Cathedral, the only medieval cathedral in England with three.
Aleks and Jamie kept their day relaxed and personal. A ceremony with their closest family and friends, confetti on the path outside, and then a couple of hours just the two of them, strolling around the city while I photographed them along the way.
It’s a brilliant option if you want something smaller and simpler, but still want photographs that feel special. You get your ceremony, your people and some genuinely beautiful portraits, all without needing a big venue.
Just married on Bird Street
After the ceremony, Aleks and Jamie stepped out of the Register Office as husband and wife, and their family and friends were waiting with confetti on the path outside. A few hugs, a few group photos and plenty of smiles.
A quiet moment under the trees
Right next door, the tree-lined paths of the Museum Gardens are perfect for the first few portraits. Shady, green and calm, and a lovely way to ease into being photographed.
Beneath the three spires
Then up towards the cathedral. The warm red sandstone, the old streets of the Close and those three spires make Lichfield one of the most beautiful cities in the Midlands for wedding portraits. A gust of wind caught Aleks’s veil at just the right moment.
By the water
Down to Minster Pool, with the cathedral spires reflected in the water. We took our time here: benches, railings, old red-brick buildings and plenty of quiet corners for a cuddle and a laugh.
Timber frames and old shopfronts
We finished on Lichfield’s historic shopping streets, among the Georgian shopfronts and black and white timber-framed buildings.
